I was one of about 15 people across the US and Canada who worked on these curtains. I helped with the installation, and wove about 5 square feet. Sounds like a lot of maille—and it is—but in comparison to the full project, it's less than 3%.
There are 20 panels in all. Each one is approximately 13 feet tall, 2 feet wide and weighs about 28 lbs. More than 16,000 rings are used in each panel.
Additionally, two shorter panels were designed to be dividers between glass display shelves and seating areas.
These curtains are part of several pieces of artwork (including stained glass and a hand-painted mural ceiling) on display at the Omni Hotel's restaurant in downtown Chicago. The atmosphere is great; I encourage you to stop by for a drink or a meal.
