Anodized Niobium
Niobium is a reactive metal which receives its color due to electricity. For more info, refer to Working with Different Metals in the FAQ section and Anodizing in the Fall 2007 Newsletter.

Different batches of niobium can be slightly different colors (just like dye lots), so be sure to purchase enough rings at once to complete your project. Each ring is anodized after it is cut, which means that the color completely covers the ring. It also means that different sizes of the same color may not match exactly, because they were anodized at different times. There can also be slight color variations from ring to ring (especially with the tricky border colors, such as 75, 85 and 90), but we try to pull as many off-color rings out as soon as possible.

The number of each color indicates the voltage required to achieve that color. The color name is just for ease of memory—please remember that one "magenta" batch could be more pink, or more purple, than another batch. Actual colors will differ from batch to batch (as stated above) and of course, these colors will look different depending on your computer monitor settings.
